SARS Walk for tax awareness a success

SARS employees from Alberton and other branches countrywide took part in a five kilometre Walk for Tax recently.

SARS employees from Alberton and other branches countrywide took part in a five kilometre Walk for Tax on Saturday, September 17.

The Alberton branch started their walk at 10:00 and ended around 11:30.

The walk was organised as a way of thanking tax-payers and to strengthen relationships between them and SARS. Employees handed out useful tax information to members of the public, businesses and informal traders during the walk.

This was the fifth leg of the national initiative by SARS to popularise revenue collection.

Similar tax walks took place at Pretoria SARS Headquarters on July 1, when SARS commissioner Tom Moyane launched the 2016 tax season, followed by similar events in Durban, Bloemfontein and Mpumalanga.

Commissioner Moyane said the aim of the initiative is to create awareness about the importance of tax payment.
