Septicaemia survivor overcomes all odds
Lorna Hutley lived like someone left the gate open and went for her dreams.
ALBERANTE – Lorna Hutley was diagnosed with septicaemia caused by an operation which kept her in ICU for seven weeks and she has almost died three times, although she is now very successful.
Her father was an alcoholic, which made her teenage years incredibly difficult. Nevertheless she passed her matric with distinctions in maths and accountancy and has worked in auditing, bookkeeping, payroll, banking, manufacturing as well as being the CFO of a large wholesale company for 23 years.
Although Lorna showed much loyalty to the company, she was unfairly dismissed at the age of 58. This caused Lorna to lose two homes and a fantastic lifestyle. “The abuse and alcoholism makes you believe that you are not worth anything,” said Lorna.
She has been divorced twice although she had five well rounded and children. Now at the age of 60, she has opened her own business (Hutley Accounts Services) and reinvented herself.
Lorna is a qualified trainer in accounts and payroll, working with Pastel. Her training does not make you a number in the room; trainee’s get special and needed attention.
She is also part of the steering committee at the Alberton Business Forum and was appointed PRO of the Afrikaans Toastmasters of Alberton. Currently Lorna also trains individuals who are in grade 10 to 12, studying Accountancy.
She prefers 12 students in her class and will design a crash course to your needs before writing an exam. She will also help corporate companies or people involved in accountancy.
“I am passionate about giving back to the community. It does not matter what happened to you, get guts and get going. I only focus on the positive in life and not the negative.
As Madiba said, “‘I have walked that long road to freedom, I have tried not to falter. I have made missteps along the way, but I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come, but I can only rest for a moment, for with freedom comes responsibilities and I dare not linger for my long walk is not ended,’” said Lorna.
