Fancy Feet equals feeling great

Emma-Anne’s mom, Tracey, took her to buy a pair of shoes for her modelling she does at Figures in Alberton, last week. “The shoes Emma-Anne chose and wanted were R500 and I told her straight, ‘no way are you having such an expensive pair of shoes’".

A SHOPPING spree to buy a pair of high-heeled shoes has resulted in 13-year-old Emma-Anne Visser starting a project, Fancy Feet, which could help young girls and boys (Fancy Feet Boyz) to have ‘fancy’ shoes for modelling, dancing or just plain wearing.

Emma-Anne’s mom, Tracey, took her to buy a pair of shoes for her modelling she does at Figures in Alberton, last week.

“The shoes Emma-Anne chose and wanted were R500 and I told her straight, ‘No way are you having such an expensive pair of shoes.’ She settled for a pair less costly but her heart was heavy not being able to have the sparkly high heels. On our way home, Emma-Anne said, ‘Just think, Mom, some teens will never be able to wear fancy heels because of the cost’, and this got her thinking.”

Tracey and Emma-Anne spoke to Melanie van den Heever, the owner of Figures Alberton, and together they came up with this project.

“We put it out there to family and friends and in under a week we had 40 pairs of shoes. When we saw the great response we put it on Facebook and we are getting more and more,” they said.

Emma-Anne is cleaning up all the shoes and they will soon be available for those who can’t afford fancy shoes. “Obviously the heels we donate will have to be age appropriate. We won’t let little girls wear such high heels but for some teenagers, it’s going to be a dream come true.”

If you would like to donate a pair of heeled girls’ shoes or boys’ fancy shoes, please phone Tracy on 083 495 1787 or Melanie on 083 446 9442.
