ALBERTON – The Annual AMCARE Charity Golf Day, held on Thursday September 26, saw 112 golfers taking to the course at Reading Country Club. No less than 18 holes were sponsored and through the generosity of many other contributors, no less than R75 000 was raised for the AMCARE Centre of Faith, Hope and Love in New Market Park.
“We are privileged and extremely grateful to have so many people supporting our work and giving in such abundance,” said Percy Howroyd, administrator at AMCARE. “Our work never ends, as the need in our communities increase daily,” he said at the prize-giving dinner held at Reading CC.

With the format of play being a four ball alliance 2 scores to count, the André de Wit team was crowned overall winners on 94 points. The “Beat the Pro” competition held on the short par 3 15th hole, drew a lot of support. Golfers were eager to show their skill against that of lady pro, Caryn Louw. Winning the prize was Pierre Boutell, delighted that he could in fact put it closer than Caryn.

Dr Vernon van Wyk, chairman of the AMCARE board, thanked all the sponsors and players, and in particular the Alberton RECORD for the generous publicity offered not only to this golf day, but in general to the AMCARE events. Dr Van Wyk also highlighted the sponsorship of Toshiba Fomula 1 who not only sponsored 3 holes, but sponsored the first prize as well as the prize for the Beat the Pro competition.
AMCARE is a multi-purpose health and social development organization servicing poor and vulnerable people in the Greater Alberton area of Ekurhuleni.
