Team ChesaNyama Braai-B-Que Announced
Braai boys will soon become the strongest competing team at the Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbeque.
ALBERTON – ChesaNyama Braai-B-Que, the first South African team to be invited to compete in two major food competitions in the United States was announced at The Good Food and Wine Show in Johannesburg on Heritage Day.
Braaing skills are what saw them through where Team ChesaNyama Braai-B-Que will field the strongest possible team at the upcoming Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbeque in Tennessee on October 26.
After ‘The Jack’, the team will travel to Las Vegas where they will compete in the World Food Championships from November 7 to 10.
Thirteen teams have made it through to the finals. The judges, who included celebrity chef Hayden Quinn of Australian Masterchef fame tucked into the dishes as they tasted and debated the two meals that were prepared on the day.
Contestants were required to prepare a whole chicken for their first dish which was judged on presentation, flavour and tenderness. The international competitions require that the meat is ‘smoked’ in the American tradition.
“It has been an incredible journey getting to the finals and we look forward to doing well in the competitions and to passing on a little of our braai culture as we travel across the US in our RV’s,” says team captain Borries.
Joining Borries, BraaiBoy (Team Captain), Sarel Loots (official representative of lead sponsors ChesaNyama) and Jimmy Baptista (co-sponsor Jimmy’s Sauces) are Mike Poyiadjis, Deon Fourie, Alan Ridley and Hanroe Erasmus. The reserve member (who will remain in SA at this time) is Ed Pretorius.
The team is scheduled to leave for Lynchburg on October 21 and will travel 2 000 miles between the two competitions in RV’s which will allow them to not only braai every day during their trip, but also spread a little South African culture along the way.
“We are proud to be the lead sponsors, and cherish the opportunity to announce celebrity chef Sarel Loots as the official ChesaNyama representative to join the team. It is going to be an incredible trip and we wish the entire team all of the very best as they take on the best the world has to offer,” says Stelio Nathanael CEO ChesaNyama.
The team will be documenting their trip daily via video clips. Follow the fun at
