Homeless tells his side of the story that leads to tears

Street kid shares his sad story and pushes the boundaries for hope.

ALBERTON – Sbulelo Bhashe is a South African male (18), born in Soweto. He has only his grandmother. His mom died in September 2010 and he never knew his father. Life seemed quite depressing as the young man shared his story.

“At home, I didn’t want to stress my grandmother.” He left to start a life on his own.“I was using a substance called nyaope after a friend had told me it was just weed.” It’s the only thing he knows. The supporting piece jobs allow for him to get additional food to survive.

Completing school in grade ten and not having further ways to complete his schooling, it lead to the use of this drug from influence. “I never knew about the drug, they told me it was weed, I tried it because I believed them and when I discovered that I felt as though I needed to do it again, that is when I became addicted.”

He continued to explain how the drug quickly became part of his life. “When I didn’t smoke, I couldn’t do anything, I couldn’t stand up… couldn’t do anything.”The young man cried out and really needs help. “I want to get out of this situation. I need help,” says Sbulelo.

“Whoever is willing to help me… I want to go back to school, I want my education. I want to be proud… I just need a second chance”

His expression had indicated a cry for help and he really was sincere about his words. All support is necessary in helping our community grow.
