Outdoor gym gets Eden Park moving

The groups start at 6am, followed by different groups every two hours throughout the day - and it is all about fitness.

WHEN the outdoor gym was opened a year ago, a handful of residents made use of it.

But, a year later, it is filled to capacity on a daily basis by residents, young and old, who are now all health enthusiasts.

FUN TIME: And also training time. This outdoor gym is well used by residents in Eden Park.

At first the trend began with the youngsters, but as time went by they were joined by middle-aged groups of exercise enthusiasts. Word spread like a wildfire about the gym and, very soon, even seniors had joined – and have not missed a day since.

One 62-year-old pensioner said: “Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has done a great job by bringing us the gym. I come here daily with my group and we feel much younger and fitter now.”

A regular, Lawrence Pillay, said he cannot keep away from the gym. “Sometimes I find myself alone with a group of ladies but I still like it,” he said.
