Hospice management honours nurses

“We honour you for the work you do."

IN celebration of International Nurses’ Day on Friday, May 12, the clinical team at Stepping Stone Hospice was treated to an ‘appreciation lunch’ at the hospice’s In-Patient Unit in New Market Park.

International Nurses’ Day is named after Florence Nightingale, who was born on 12 May 1820, and is still respected and honoured for changing the face of nursing from a mostly untrained job to a highly skilled and well-respected medical calling, as well as making nursing a patient-centred profession.

The lunch was prepared with love by Stepping Stone’s very own Clinical Services Manager, Sister Sheryl Newman and CEO, Tersia Burger. “This is a very special day as we celebrate you and all you do here at this wonderful place we have created together,” said Tersia Burger to the clinical staff present.

“We honour you for the work you do, for the love and compassion you show our patients and their families, and for the emotional strength you display when you have to say goodbye over and over again. You are all magnificent,” she added.
