Eden Cansurvive Support Group seeks members

The group goes from door to door to support cancer patients and needs more people to join their mission.

ON Saturday, June 3 the Eden Park Cansurvive Support Group marched through the streets of Eden Park to reflect their support for cancer awareness.

The group, joined by the Geluksdal Cancer Group for Support, gained momentum as they marched and was joined by many residents wanting to support the campaign.

The support group was established at the beginning of this year by a group of cancer survivors who joined hands to start it. Member numbers increased and by April, the group consisted of 25 members – 23 women and two men. In May the leaders went to Pretoria to register the group officially.

“Cancer is a painful illness which sometimes results in loneliness and a melancholic condition. Our mission is to go door to door to help, encourage and support those who suffer from cancer and to make them aware that suffering from cancer does not mean it’s the end of the world. Our visits are spiritual, as we also pray with the people,” said Rhona Pieters, a member of the group.

The group added that they require more supporters and helpers and wish that other groups in the area could join them to form one big support group.
