SAPS embark on campaign on gender based violence
SAPS urge and encourage people to act swiftly and report domestic violence so that cases can be opened.
GENDER based violence against women and children has become a major issue in the daily lives of South African citizens.
The Magistrate Court deals with such cases on a daily basis where men appear before the magistrate for attacking, raping and even killing women and young girls.
Eden Park SAPS in conjunction with Ekurhuleni social workers and Local Drug Action Committee started their campaign on Wednesday, July 5 at the Pentecost Protestant Church (PPC) to address domestic violence and substance abuse.
There was a good attendance of young and old from the community.
On Thursday, July 6 the group moved to the local clinic which, to their advantage, is always packed to capacity with members of the community.
“Our campaign is effective and helpful. We can see good results because domestic violence cases are declining. Our campaign is ongoing and we will visit different communities at different venues,
“We urge and encourage people to act swiftly and report domestic violence so that cases can be opened. Communities must help the police by coming forward with any information and their identity will remain a secret,” said Sgt Mita Badi.
