Family joins grandpa as he donates blood for 300th time

To show their support, his children and grandchildren also donated, thus giving SANBS seven units of blood in total.

ON the morning of July 16, the Conradie family from Alberton paid a visit to SANBS in Alberton City Shopping Centre. Grandpa Jacob (73) was about to donate blood for the 300th time!

To show their support, his children and grandchildren also donated, thus giving SANBS seven units of blood in total. The family members included the following people:

  • Esté Erasmus (50), Jacob’s daughter, who donated for the 73rd time.
  • Esté’s sons, Wynand (18) and Wikus (23). Wikus donated for the 37th time and Wynand donated for the very first time.
  • Mariëtte van Tonder (43), Jacob’s daughter, who donated for the 53rd time.
  • Mariëtte’s husband, Paul (47), who donated for the 26th time.
  • Mariëtte and Paul’s son, Stefan (18), who donated for the 10th time.

To thank the family, SANBS staff gave them a bottle of champagne and a cake which they enjoyed when they got home. However, the reward that really counts is the second chance at life that their donations might bring to someone.

You too can support SANBS. Stop by their branch in Alberton City Shopping Centre and make a donation. It will be worth it – your small donation might mean the difference between life and death for someone. Not to mention you’ll get a free cookie and juicebox! Yay!
