DEMS helps little ones for Mandela Day

EKURHULENI’S Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) visited the Good Hope and the Everest crèche on Mandela Day.
On July 18, as part of International Nelson Mandela Day, the DEMS officers and staff spent their 67 minutes at these early childhood centres and handed gifts to children. “The staff members facilitated the revamping of the structures as well,” said William Ntladi, DEMS’ district manager media liaison.
The day started just after 10am at the Good Hope crèche in Germiston, spearheaded by the member of the mayoral committee (MMC) for Community Safety, councillor Vivian Chauke. The team later proceeded to the Everest crèche in Springs.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program members from different areas and Public Information Education & Relations (PIER) officials started the day by painting the roof and vanishing the walls of the creche. Structures at this crèche are made from wood. At Everest, officials painted corrugated structures in multiple bright colours as requested by management.
Both crèches received gifts such as children’s blankets, soccer balls and winter clothes, which were donated by community safety staff members.
