Mpact makes recycling easy for everyone

Green Ronnie Bags can be collected for free at our Caxton offices, located at 1 Eaton Terrace, New Redruth, Alberton.

RECYCLING is a key component of modern waste reduction and conservation. It changes waste materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution from incineration and reduce water pollution by minimising the amount of waste entering our water sources.

According to the City of Joburg, each person produces 1.2 kilograms of waste every day. Bearing in mind that there are approximately 3.2 million people in the Ekurhuleni municipality alone, that is nearly 1.4 million tonnes of waste a year – four times the weight of the Empire State Building, 55 times the weight of the Statue of Liberty and 150 times the weight of the Eiffel Tower! Now imagine having to get rid of that in a limited space.

Mpact Recycling is committed to embracing the landfill challenge through their kerbside collection programme. Homeowners continue to receive a free weekly kerbside collection service from Mpact Recycling, including the delivery and supply of reusable Ronnie Bags. These bags can be collected for free at our Caxton offices, located at 1 Eaton Terrace, New Redruth in Alberton.

Previously, Mpact collected paper only, but now they’re adding cartons to the mix, like the milk and juice Tetra Pak cartons (plastic-coated paper cartons). All the paper and carton packaging they collect from your home is manufactured into “new” packaging by their Mpact Paper Division.

Here is a list of what one can and cannot put into the Ronnie Bags to be recycled:

How it works

Fold paper and flatten cardboard before putting it in the green Ronnie Bag (avoid anything with grease on it, like animal fat or cooked cheese). Keep your Ronnie Bags in a clean and dry holding area. In the event that you have too much recyclable paper and beverage cartons, put it in a cardboard box or a clear plastic bag and it will be collected (they collect once a week, from 7am to 7pm). Make sure the Ronnie Bags are visible from the street and aren’t hidden behind an electricity box, garden gate, pillar or tree. When they collect, they’ll leave a green Ronnie Bag for you to fill the following week. Keep recycling – it’s so easy!
