Strange fluid runs down Alberton North street
“The milky water originated from a panel beating shop situated at the corner of Piet Retief Street and Second Avenue."
THE RECORD received reports of a strange, white fluid running down Second Avenue in Alberton North on Tuesday, August 15.
The source of the leak was traced to a crack in the sidewalk on the corner of Second Avenue and Piet Retief Street. A tiny stream of odourless, milky fluid bubbled from between the bricks and flowed down the side of the street. Those who reported the fluid suspected it might have been some kind of chemical.
The RECORD asked people from buildings closest to the source of the fluid if they had any information about it, but no one knew anything.

According to Kelebogile Mothlomedi of the EMM: “The milky water originated from a panel beating shop situated at the corner of Piet Retief Street and Second Avenue in Alberton North. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the company was washing vehicles after sanding them down in preparation for spray painting.
“An inspection notice was issued, instructing the company to install a grease or oil silt or sand trap connected to the sewer within 14 days to accommodate the industrial waste from their daily operations. The Water Quality office will do a follow-up inspection on Thursday, August 31.”
