Pedestrians caught in ‘near death situation’

Pedestrians in Passat Street escaped death on Thursday October 24 when a reckless and negligent tow-truck driver drove down the street at high speed. The speeding driver in his twenties, missed people in the street; a vegetable stall, hit a lamppost and finally drove into a wall.

EDEN PARK – “The young man was speeding in Lancia Street and almost ran us over on the wrong side of the road. The four of us had to jump out of the way of the speeding truck. He almost killed us,” said the traumatised Jessica Pijoos. Nobody was injured in the accident.

The young driver sustained no visible injuries and explained that a burst front wheel caused the accident but could not explain his speeding. Bystanders summoned the police to the scene. Many parents said they are thankful their children were still at school because it could have been worse with children in the streets.
