She wants to be God’s tool

“I have a soft spot for vulnerable people."

BELINDA Lourens (47) has been a part of Tutela for the past seven years. She shares some personal thoughts and how Tutela has brought her even closer to God.

Before joining Tutela Belinda was a Grade R teacher for 13 years. Although she has been involved with Tutela since 2010, she was officially appointed as a social worker in 2012. To do the will of God and spread His love is what drives Belinda to be successful.

The reason she decided to join Tutela specifically was to work in and be a part of the Alberton community. Tutela is also where she decided to complete her practical work as a social worker student. “Alberton is a great and unique community,” she said. “I love working here and helping the people who are hurting and struggling.”

The people who struggle, such as drug addicts, homeless people, people who are hurting inside and children hold a special place in Belinda’s heart. “I have a soft spot for vulnerable people,” she says. “I want to help them and I do so out of love, just like God would do.”

Belinda’s top life goal is to serve as God’s tool and be remembered as someone who spread His love. Tutela has and is still helping her reach this goal. “It’s hearing people’s success stories and learning from all my experiences here at Tutela that helps grow my faith. I’ve learned to never give up, always hold on and to show God gratitude for each new day,” she concluded.
