Paramedics battle to get patient out at Silwerkroon

"The lift has been out of order for a long time."

A RESIDENT from Silwerkroon Old Age Home had a close call after paramedics battled to get him out because the lift is still not in use.

On Sunday, January 28 a resident whose name is being withheld due to “fear of victimisation” had to be carried awkwardly down several flights of stairs on a stretcher after he collapsed.

“My dad collapsed a while back and we took him to hospital,” the man’s daughter said.

“He was in hospital for 12 days and when he arrived back at Silwerkroon, he had to climb the flights of stairs to his home.

“The lift has been out of order for a long time. Now it is repaired, but locked as there is no one to maintain this lift,” she added.

“On Sunday my dad collapsed again, and the ambulance people had to battle up with their equipment and carry my dad downstairs with the stretcher.

“This is so wrong. There are three floors of old people living in the complex with only one lift that is locked.”
