Weekend without power for Albertsdal

It was a dark weekend.

POWER for residents in Cedarberg Street, Albertsdal, was a disaster over the past weekend.

Electricity went off on March 24 at around 1am and came back on March 25 just before 5pm.

It was a dark weekend for the residents as they did follow the basic steps to report the situation by calling the EMM call centre and getting reference numbers.

“The strange thing is it affected only a few houses in the street. I understand that there are many other incidents and that the restoration team had a few call-outs, but we never received an update until we phoned again on March 25 early in the morning,” said a resident.

The power was out due to a cable fault.

“At first they said that a team was dispatched on March 24 and it is due to damaged or stolen cables, but it was still not restored,” the resident said.

DARK WEEKEND: Some residets from Albertsdal spent a weekend with candles due to the power outage.

Another resident also told the RECORD that she had to make plans to refrigerate her meat as she bought it on March 23 and it was not frozen.

“A big shout-out to Themba Gadebe (EMM spokesperson) and DA councillors who tried to assist and put pressure on the team,” the resident said.

He also wanted to thank the team for coming out on a Sunday and hooting at his gate to ask if the power is back on.
