On my way to work each morning, I drive down Jaqueline Avenue and approach the traffic circle just before Hoërskool Marais Viljoen.
I think it must be one of the worst traffic circles to navigate because so many drivers don’t have a clue about what the rules of a traffic circle are. Give way to your right, and definitely don’t stop halfway through to let another driver into the circle. You may think you are doing someone a favour, but you are actually going to create an accident if you do this.
Last week I was in the right-hand side of the double lane coming down Jacqueline Avenue and I was going straight up into Bodmin Road. The guy driving in the left-hand lane decided he wanted to turn right into Padstow Street. Thankfully, I thought he looked a bit dodgy and slowed down. If I hadn’t, I would have hit him on the side.
I can’t believe so many drivers actually don’t have any road sense and I’m surprised there are not even more accidents on our roads.
Here’s to a safer driving week ahead!
