Hit and run on mother and baby

On Saturday evening November 9 at 19:30, a speeding white Mercedes Benz drove recklessly in Abraham Street and drove into a mother carrying her baby.

EDEN PARK – It is alleged by an eyewitness that the mother and baby flew into the air and made a painful landing on the stony pavement, while the reckless and negligent driver just sped off not giving a thought to his action.

Realizing the serious injury sustained by the mother and her baby, many bystanders phoned the police and the emergency services. The two, with injured legs and arm, were rushed to hospital. It is alleged that the police never came to the scene although it was only 100 metres from the police station, and neither did the driver of the white Benz.

A very disappointed family member, Veronica Flemmer said: “My daughter, Corné and her baby were run down by a careless driver who just sped off. I went to the police and all they could say is that they have no van or accident staff to attend the scene. We went on Tuesday to open a case at the police station.

“I am very disappointed with our police but I am very thankful to the by-standers who made it their community duty by phoning for an ambulance and the police. To the white Mercedes Benz driver, I say ‘We know who you are. Many people saw you and will testify’.”

“The truth will come out ultimately even if the cowardly driver does not come forth or hide the car. His family will be just as guilty for keeping his evil deed a secret. God will make them all pay and a bad curse will be over them,” said an anonymous bystander.
