Power box hazard on Lenin Street
A Power box on Lenin Street has been without its cover and leaves wires open for almost two months.
A POWER box on Lenin Street has been without its cover and leaves wires open for almost two months.
The opening of the power box on March 20 coincided with the installation of fibre cables on the street. When nearby business owners called emergency power services, the services claimed the box was opened to connect power from across Ring Road to the street.
According to people from businesses on the street, there has been work done on the box two or three times up until now but the box remains open.
An open box of this kind creates a dangerous situation for passers-by that could possibly touch a live wire and be electrocuted. It also provides access for anyone to tamper with the box, compromising power to the people this box serves.
When contacted about the power box, ward councillor Bruna Haipel denied knowledge of the box being open but promised to take it up with the relevant authorities. She also asked people to please report any problems with power and service boxes to the correct channels, as without the information about the problem nothing can be done to fix it.
