Over R2-million raised on National Cupcake Day
The event was held across 79 malls in South Africa on September 29, including Mall of the South, The Glen Shopping Centre and Mall at New Market.
CUPCAKES of Hope raised the bar this year, bettering the amount of money raised last year in the fight against children suffering from cancer. A total of R2 065 807-million was raised this year on the seventh annual National Cupcake Day.
The event was held across 79 malls in South Africa on September 29, including Mall of the South, The Glen Shopping Centre and Mall at New Market. It involved thousands of bakers, also known as Cupcake Angels, who began preparations many months before.
The event is totally community-driven, relying on the commitment of bakers from as young as three years old to 90 years old, to come together and ‘bake’ a difference in the lives of little cancer patients.
“Last year we raised more than R1.80-m on National Cupcake Day, but this year we aimed high and we got it. We had close to 200 000 cupcakes that were pledged,” said founder of Cupcakes of Hope initiative, Sandy Cipriano.
“Thank you to every single person who baked, decorated, volunteered and donated their time and energy towards making National Cupcake Day truly the sweetest day of the year. We will be able to bless so many more children,” Sandy said.
These funds raised will go towards the medical and other day-to-day needs of little cancer patients. Cupcakes of Hope assist up to 70 patients per month, donating medical equipment to hospitals around the country.
