Beautiful memorial service for Brenda Wannenburg at the Alberton Methodist Church
Brenda lost the battle against cancer on October 18, at the young age of 48.
IT was with great sadness that the memorial service of Brenda Wannenburg, known by many community members as the kind, friendly employee at the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) in Alberton, was held on October 25 at the Alberton Methodist Church.
Brenda lost the battle against cancer on October 18, at the young age of 48. She spent her last days in the care of Stepping Stone Hospice. Thankfully, during this time, she was constantly surrounded with people who loved and cared for her.
At her memorial, the church hall was filled and her two favourite songs, Oceans by Hillsong United and Rooftops by Jesus Culture, played in her honour. Everyone sang along softly, some with eyes full of tears.

A few of Brenda’s friends and loved ones shared a personal message about her.
The pastor at her memorial, Paul Wagstaff, knew Brenda and her family personally for quite some time. He said: “She was a wonderful mom and friend to all who knew her. Today, she is looking down on us with a radiant smile, in Jesus’ embrace. On behalf of Brenda’s family, I want to thank everyone for their care, compassion and support during this very difficult time.”
Her co-worker, Tracey Rashkumar, said: “Your space has been left empty, Bren. There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother – you are that person. You were my comforter. You were deeply loved and radiated love to others. You always gave your best in everything you did. It was a privilege to have been able to work with you for the past 11 years. I celebrate you and your heart of gold!”
Her mother, Muriel Wannenburg, said: “I love my Brenda and I will always love her, forever and a day, every single day.”

Her father, Freddie Wannenburg, said: “I love my beautiful daughter Brenda endlessly; life will never be the same without her. At least I know that where she is now, she is happier than ever.”
Brenda’s only child, Sinead Wannenburg, said: “My mom was my biggest supporter. She loved me so much; she was the best mother ever. It’s a consolation to know that, during her suffering, she was always surrounded with love and support. I am grateful that I was there with her every hour of every day before she went to heaven. I will miss her an awful lot.”
