Ring Road East lane still closed due to legal rezoning hold up

The wall has not been repaired because of a dispute over the question of whose responsibility it is to fix it.

BARRIERS to prevent vehicles from entering the left turning lane are still in place on Ring Road East close to the corner of Van Rensburg Road.

These have been put in place due to concerns that the nearby wall will fall over onto unsuspecting vehicles,

The wall has not been repaired because of a dispute over the question of whose responsibility it is to fix it. The current owners of the land are of the opinion that the wall’s responsibility lies with the municipal. However, it is the EMM’s belief that the business that owns the ground next to the wall should fix it.

The business has offered to fix the wall should ownership of the ground be transferred to them.

This is where the current hold up is taking place. For the ground to be transferred, the scheduling of the ground needs to change.

According to the ward councillor, Tian Kotze, various municipal bodies need to review the change and allow it. “It is still to appear before me so I have no idea where the holdup is,” said Kotze.

At this stage, it is unknown when the transfer and subsequent repairs will occur.
