UPDATE: 70 elderly residents of Silwerkroon Old Age Home unable to use lift again

Installation can be expected in February.

Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for EMM send the following response:

The Silwerkroon lift is part of the lifts to be replaced by the City and the City had procured services from Schindler to maintain the lift until such a time a new lift is installed.

Unfortunately, the lift maintenance with Schindler expired before the installation of the new lift. There were delays with lift tenders due to late delivery of lifts and additional works that had to be factored within the contract.

The contract unfortunately also expired on June 28, 2018, thus a section 36 deviation from normal procurement process was resorted to ensure that new lifts are installed.

The City has a programme to resume with the installation of new lifts in February 2019, depending on council approving the deviation from the normal procurement process.
