City revisits council resolution on swimming pools

Due to public demand, EMM shall seek a new council resolution that will enable them to have public pools open during the festive season as from 2019.

THE City of Ekurhuleni has consulted with various stakeholders and relevant departments with regard to the closure of swimming pools for a limited period of the festive season as reflected in a previous media statement.

As a result, the city will be revisiting the council resolution of 2006, which is directing that the pools, as non-essential and emergency services, should not be operational and will be closed between December 22 and January 1.

Due to the need and demand from the public, the city shall seek a new council resolution that will enable them to have these facilities opened during the festive season as from 2019 – but will be closed on December 25 and 26 and January 1.

EMM will ensure that risks and challenges such as crowd control and the health and safety of communities at these facilities are of high priority.

The city undertakes to ensure that when the next swimming season begins in September, a new council resolution is in place. The public will also be informed of the new festive season swimming calendar in advance.

As a norm the pools will be operational six days a week, Tuesdays to Saturdays between 10am and 6pm and Sundays and public holidays between 2pm and 6pm.

The city apologises for any inconvenience this is causing.
