Buhle Mhlongo (13) following her singing dreams

Talented singer from Mayberry Park.

BUHLE Mhlongo (13) a learner from Bracken High School has been focusing on turning her dreams into reality since receiving a phone call in October 2018.

The call came from Kim Myers, an international scout for arts who invited her to perform in front of the leading industry professionals from all over America at the annual Arts Convention in Orlando, Florida. Buhle will be there for nine days (which includes seven days stay at the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel). The trip further includes the exposure to open interviews with attending agents, talent scouts, record labels, casting directors, acting coaches, and managers of the highest calibre from New York, LA and many more.

This followed her performance at the nationals for the International Arts Talent Showcase in Gauteng.

“With those, she believes she will make it far in the entertainment industry and achieve her goals of becoming an international singer, dancer, actor and model. Buhle is looking forward to being part of the South African team to represent her province and the country, in America. She is scheduled to depart for America on the June 30,” said her mother, Xoliswa Mhlongo.

It will be the first that Buhle and her mother have travelled overseas and they are both excited.

A dream come true

Buhle is a singer, dancer, actor and a model from Just You Artist and Model Management which is based in Illovo, owned by Elsubie Verlinden.

She began training as a dancer at Ambitions Dance Studios when she was nine years old and has participated in competitions such as Eisteddfod, Cats Whiskers where she earned several medals for modern and hip-hop dance.

She was also invited to perform a dance piece at the Market Theatre in May 2018. Since then she has gained loads of exposure in the industry. She has done a voice over for Ashes to Ashes drama on etv and participated in Bonisanani Game show on SABC 1.

In August 2018, she grabbed the first place spot and won the Spur’s Rising Star competition in the Alberton area.

Buhle has featured in DStv, Nido and Nelson Mandela Foundation TV Commercials and has been booked for an upcoming International Film, Valhalla. Buhle also participated in the Uber Glam fashion show as a model in November 2018.

“She takes pride in hard work, consistency and humbleness,” said Xoliswa.

Following her dream:

“I started singing when I was only eight years old and people told me that I could sing. There my passion started flowering,” said Buhle.

She loves to sing in her mother’s car. According to Xoliswa, her daughter is a very shy person when she is not on stage singing, it is as if the stage is her comfort zone.

The song Buhle loves to sing is All I could do is cry from Beyonce who is also her role model. “Beyonce is a very talented and successful woman who is famous and who always follows her dream,” said Buhle.

“My inspiration in life is my mother because she has always been supporting me. She knows how to deal with me when I am moody. She is my mentor, my friend, my teacher and she is the one who supports me,” she said.

How can you help:

“We have paid for the accommodation, outfits and workshops already which is under a R100 000. However we would really appreciate it if we could get some sponsors willing to pay for flights and some pocket money,” said Xoliswa.

Anyone who wants to donate can contact Xoliswa on 083 222 7118.
