Major traffic back-ups due to traffic lights not working

Some of the traffic lights in Alrode have not been working for two months. According to motorists it causes severe traffic during peak times.

TRAFFIC lights in the Alberton area have been a big problem for motorists for a couple of months.

Some of the traffic lights in Alrode have not been working for two months. According to motorists it causes severe traffic during peak times. They also said that there are only a few drivers who actually know how to approach a traffic light when it is not working.

A motorist, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the RECORD that he tried reporting the matter a few times to the municipality through their call centre, but he failed as there is no answer there.

The times that the motorist got through he was told by EMM that the enquiries have been closed for the repairs have been carried out.

“The latest enquiry reference numbers for the problem are 3488553 and 3488560, which, to my utter surprise, I was told that these reference numbers have been closed on the same day as opening them. Yet nothing has been done. The traffic lights are still out of order.

“The EMM Call Centre instead opened another two enquiries namely 3497726 and 3497727. This is now the fourth time new numbers have been opened because they simply refuse to sort out the problem.

“I have spent 60 minutes on the phone and achieved nothing. I am being told continuously to hold the line while they follow up and then I just don’t hear from them again,” he said.

TRAFFIC: Due to the traffic lights not working in JG Strydom and Potgieter streets intersection, traffic is heavily backed up during peak times.

• Dan Jacobs Street and Vereeniging Road intersection.

• Van Til Street and Vereeniging Road intersection.

• JG Strydom and Delphinium Street intersection.

• JG Strydom and Potgieter Street intersection.

• Potgieter Street and Dan Jacobs intersection.

• The RECORD did ask for comment from EMM and will publish it as soon as it is received
