[GALLERY + VIDEO]: Creative Academy hosts fund-raiser for cancer patients

Creative Academy partnered with Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer to host an annual Shavathon with intent to raise funds for cancer patients.

BRACKENHURST-based pre-school Creative Academy partnered with Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer to host its annual Shavathon on February 26.

The pre-school has hosted the Shavathon for three years now. This year they decided to team up with Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer to host their fund-raising campaign in aid of those with cancer.

This initiative involved community members young and old and was a great success. Those who attended could treat themselves to cupcakes at only R10, while others went for shaving and spraying of their hair.

Creative Academy principal Lolita Visser said that more of these kinds of events should to take place.

“Through this initiative, we hope to get more community members involved and give back in showing support. It feels good to give back to a good cause,” said Visser.

Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer volunteer Elize Pereira urged community members to get involved in giving a hand to those with cancer.

“These fund-raising events are very effective and the money we receive from the community makes a difference. We are able to help offer medical assistance and buy groceries and all this money pays for expenses. We have a number of volunteers including, bakers, who voluntarily offer their services. Those interested in helping us make a difference can search for our website online,” she said.

A teacher at the academy, Claudia Visser, said the event was thrilling to participate in. She added that it was fun to play around with colour sprays and that it felt good to be involved in an activity which can change somebody’s life.
