Mostert back on a bike and aiming for the top

Despite injury plaguing his career, he is back on the dirt track to success.

DYLAN Mostert (19) is a young up-and-coming competitor on the competitive motocross scene.

He first became interested in the motocross scene in 2007. His inspiration for starting to ride comes from his father, who according to Dylan, has always been into bikes.

Taking to the road for the first time on a pocket bike, Dylan immediately showed a knack for the sport, competing in his first regional championship by the end of the year.

At that stage, Dylan moved straight up to the big wheel pro mini class where he was the youngest competitor by three years. Everything was looking good for Dylan, with high-placed finishes in races, when tragedy struck.

A rough landing caused him to fracture his back, leading to him having to hang up the helmet for a few months.

Unfortunately, not long after getting back on the bike, he fractured his back again. A series of fractures led to Dylan being out from the competitive scene for four and a half years.

In it to win it

Not one to be kept down, Dylan began competing again in 2016.

Despite Dylan saying that the road to recovery and being fit to ride again is a tough one, he proved his mettle by getting a top 10 finish in regionals.

Along with getting fitter and proudly having shaken 7kg, Dylan has been placing consistently in 2017 and 2018.

Now having moved on to the MX class, Dylan is set to make a strong push for a high finish in this season’s nationals.

On his current bike, a 2017 Honda 450, he has already won the first regionals and is enthusiastic about his potential for this year.

Dylan not only enjoys the sport by himself, but also trains young motocross riders at Smoking Pistons. “When you are on the bike, you feel like you can do every turn better, every jump better,” said Dylan about his enthusiasm for the sport. “It’s all about the speed. If I could, I would have a room full of bikes.”

Giving thanks

Dylan would like to thank Bike Anatix, Moto Kustoms, Ellies, Smoking Pistons (where he also trains and works) and Fast for their support in helping get his sports career back on track.

“Thank you to my parents for your support of my sport,” Dylan said. “I especially would like to thank my dad for the years of dedication he’s shown to my sport. Thank you for always putting me and my career first.”

Dylan is still looking for sponsors to help him further his dreams of one day competing with the best of the best on an international stage. If you would like to assist, feel free to contact Dylan on 076 373 5392.
