Intersection at Rietvlei Zoo Farm and Swartkoppies Road is unsafe
“We desperately need traffic lights at this intersection.”

MOTORISTS are complaining about the intersection at Rietvlei Zoo Farm and Swartkoppies Road.
“I feel scared driving there because if you are driving towards Rietvlei Zoo Farm from Alberton, you must stop to turn right into Rietvlei Zoo Farm and there is no stop sign there allowing us to turn safely.
“We have to wait for all the cars who are always on speed and driving more than 80km/h before we can make our turn,” said a motorist who wishes to remain anonymous.
The road is always busy and many people have suggested that a traffic light or stop sign would make it much easier for motorists to either get into Rietvlei or out of Rietvlei into Swartkoppies Road.
“Traffic is obviously worse at peak hours when parents are dropping off their children at the schools (Grace Trinity School for girls and St Declan’s School for boys) and collecting them later on in the afternoon.
“We desperately need traffic lights at this intersection,” the motorist said.

The RECORD drove to Rietvlei and it is a struggle to pass the intersection. Road signs and safety boards are visible while driving on the road showing motorists to slow down, but still, not all motorists drive by the rules.
• The RECORD is awaiting comment from EMM.
