Project Vuk’uphile is the City of Ekurhuleni three-year development programme that enables aspiring contractors to become fully-fledged construction companies.
Through this project, Black Mushroom Contractors were able to install playground equipment and outdoor gyms in areas such as Randhart, Brackenhurst, Mayberry Park and New Redruth. They partnered with BigAds on a three-month project to introduce an eco-gym park for the Raceview residents and neighbouring communities.

The gym sets cater to both young and old. Training programme includes stair stepper, pec deck, air walker, chest press and shoulder exerciser, among other offerings.
“These environmentally friendly gym sets will help those interested in wanting to shape up. Unlike going to a proper gym and paying a huge sum of money, the public can now exercise free of charge while gaining the same benefits. These gym sets are ideal as they are easily maintained and last longer,” said Mpho Moeketsi, Black Mushroom project manager.

He added that the outdoor gym has had a positive response from the community. He said the community even starts gym classes, with members exercising in groups either in the mornings or late afternoons.
Sherry Buso, a resident of Raceview, commended the project and said more community members would now visit the park more often.
“We are grateful for these fitness gym sets. At least, I can now come to exercise during my leisure time. We will now have more people coming to the park because of this project, while others will take their pets for a walk,” she said.

The outdoor gym is open to the public and the community is encouraged to visit the park.
