Gifts for the needy

Christmas wishes came true when the Rotary Club Alberton collected gifts at Game Shopping Centre.

ALBERTON – Rotary Club Alberton – a youth exchange programme, held their Christmas Tree of Joy at Game Shopping Centre in Alberton City on November 30.

A massive Christmas tree held many Christmas cards with numerous names on, young and old, of people who are in need and deserve a Christmas like any other fortunate person would have.

Shoppers of Game came in and chose a card from the tree, some of their choice and others in the pure sense of giving for Christmas. They would then go into the store and buy whatever that person asked for on the card.

All the gifts were wrapped on arrival back at the table and were handed over to the people for Christmas by the Rotarians.

Rotarians identified these people with needs and went out of their way to ensure a joyful Christmas. “Things most of the people asked for were things we people take for granted,” said one Rotarian.

One shopper chose a card where a 4-year-old girl asked for a bicycle. The family did their shopping and when they handed over the gift, all who looked on in amazement were shocked, he had bought a R1 000 bicycle for the girl out of pure love in his heart.

The day was a huge success as most of the people got what they wished for.
