1 000 pairs of shoes for warmer feet this winter

This much-needed donation will go a long way in making winter easier for many.

ONE thousand pairs of shoes will go a long way for those who would have gone without them this winter.

Amcare received this much-needed donation from Sole2Sole, who donated over 1 000 pairs of shoes – 300 of those are brand new – courtesy of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

Dario Gouveia, a 12-year-old learner from Marist Brothers Linmeyer and Meyersdal resident, began Sole2Sole two years and three months ago.

The idea for the initiative began when Dario passed a mother begging in Michelle Avenue with a young boy with torn shoes.

ANOTHER BAG: Amcare’s marketing manager, Nadine Mason, helps with offloading the donated shoes from Sole2Sole on April 11.

Dario’s mother, Zita Gouevia, who was present during the donation, told the RECORD that Dario told her they must take his shoes which no longer fit him to the boy.

“We drove back to where the mother and the boy were situated and gave him the shoes and Sole2Sole was born, so to speak,” added Zita.

Amcare’s marketing manager, Nadine Mason, conveyed Amcare’s gratitude towards Sole2Sole and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for the much-needed donations.

ONE BAG AT A TIME: Zita Gouveia and Nadine Mason offload the shoes which are all packed and ready to go to Amacare’s storeroom.

“We are truly grateful to be chosen as one of the beneficiaries of the shoes, thank you Sole2Sole and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,” added Nadine.
