A TEAM of investigators of the Alberton Detective Service stands proud after a conviction of two detainees who were both recently sentenced on April 26.

The detainees were involved in the theft of railway clips at a railway line between Katlehong and Alberton.

The pair were caught red-handed stealing clips from the railway lines by security members who worked on the day. They were taken into custody in November 2018 by the Alberton police and further investigations were conducted by the police.

The case docket was assigned to Sgt Rebecca Moloto and her team of investigators, Sgt Thabo Seope and Sgt Tshiwawe Masitenyane to investigate the matter.

For months, the team worked tirelessly on the case and managed to gather all the information on the case to convince the local court of law that the suspects are guilty.

The Palm Ridge Magistrates Court then found the pair guilty for theft and sentenced them both to five years of imprisonment.

Moloto commented that: “The actions of the two suspects were against the South African Constitution and punishable by the law. We want to raise awareness to the public that no matter how long a case can take, we will bring those accountable to book.”

Captain Manare Ramotshela, spokesperson for Alberton SAPS said, “The message delivered by the court of law to the community was that they must refrain from criminal activities or this is what will happen to them. The culprits were handed down five years’ imprisonment,” he said.
