The Vaal University of Technology E-Skills CoLab, in collaboration with Human Capital Learning Solutions (HCLS), hosted an E-Skills certificate ceremony on June 6 at Alberton Civic Centre.

About 200 proud graduates who enrolled with HCLS were awarded certificates in digital literacy, technical support and web development Program. Those that graduated consisted of post-matriculants, employees who are interested in gaining skills and aspirant entrepreneurs.

The E-Literacy is a free course presented by HCLS under VUT, which is a programme developed to train community members in giving them basic e-literacy skills.

HCLS in partnership with Amcare and other numerous stakeholders offers mentoring, coaching and incubation to aspirant entrepreneurs. Their short courses are accredited by VUT and their focus is on empowering community members to start their own businesses and help give them free computer skills.

Sonja Venter, a facilitator at HCLS said courses which are freely offered by the academy will open doors for the graduates.

“Our graduates are equipped with necessary skills to make it as they go out in their respective fields of interest. They graduated with flying colours and through them, the academy has groomed independent entrepreneurs. In our normal sessions they are given skills that will enable them to be their own bosses,” she said.

Marihet Infantino, a general manager at Amcare commended the graduates for their academic excellence.

“We are very proud of our graduates. We have at least 15 of our caregivers who also enrolled with the academy in E-skills training. We are highly grateful to HCLS for providing these skills to our team,” said Infantino.

Aritten Collins (65), a graduate from Benoni, told the RECORD that the course will assist in giving him computer skills.

“I acknowledge and appreciate the institution’s role in giving me computer skills. The only reason I took this course was because I wanted to know more about a computer and not having to be helped by people. I now know all the basics on how a computer operates,” he said.
