Child abuse awareness a huge success
FUTURE Heroes Inclusion Learning Centre hosted a child abuse awareness event on June 13 in Meyersdale.
The purpose of the awareness was to make the public aware of child abuse and also educate children about different types of abuse. Children were taught about types of body touches. The little ones were shown a demonstration of a bad and a good touch.
Nomasonto Sikhonde, the founder of the centre, said a good touch was when they play with their friend, or when someone touches them in a friendly manner.
“Bad touch it’s when someone touches them in a manner in which they feel uncomfortable, or when someone touches them in their private parts. When their private parts are being compromised, they need to apply the following. Firstly, recognise those touches, secondly respond by running away, or to say no and to report any ‘bad touch’ to their teacher, mother, father or anyone they trust, ” said Sikhonde.
Children also learnt about safety, and how to defend themselves and break the cycle of silence. SAPS and members of the public supported the initiative. Sikhonde said they were planning to hold a bigger event next year.
