YOUNG At Heart of Alberton Methodist Church had elders glued to their seats as they were treated with good food and entertainment on June 19.

Young At Heart is a group of 12 individuals who are passionate about bringing elderly people together on a monthly basis.

The group unites senior members, treating them to delicious meals, a pep talk and loads of entertainment.

Senior citizens from Queenshaven, Alberton Retirement Village and even those not residing in retirement villages were wowed with stunning performances of poetry, words of encouragement and a performance by the Alberton Retirement Village choir.

Kobie van Wyk, chairperson of Young At Heart, said this was a great way of uniting the elderly.

“Our meetings have been a success for all these years. People keep joining our group because of how effective these meetings are. Through these meetings, the elderly are able to take their minds off things. We encourage those who wish to become part of us to join us,” she said.

Malcolm Stuart, a Mayberry Park resident, commented: “I am always looking forward to coming here, it’s the only time I get to enjoy myself. In these meetings, we get chances to participate in activities that stretch our minds.”
