WATCH: Blocked drain in boulevard causes unpleasant smell for businesses
An ongoing blocked sewer has had boulevard businesses and its customers experiencing an unpleasant smell for weeks now in Voortrekker Road.
A BLOCKED drain from which sewage is spilling has subjected businesses in the Alberton Boulevard and customers to an unpleasant smell for weeks.
The overflowing blocked sewer leaks throughout the day, wasting a huge amount of water and making it unpleasant for nearby restaurants that are affected by the mess.
According to George White, a manager at Copy 2 Print, the problem started even before the current revamp and no permanent solutions have been offered by the municipality.

“The boulevard is being revamped, yet we still have this problem. This has been going on for a number of weeks. It gets attended to by City of Ekurhuleni (CoE), but the same situation pops up and is back to ‘normal’ again after a week.”
Mokgadi Tauatsoala, an employee at Delicious Flame Chicken, said the overflowing drain is posing a threat to their business.

“I also make calls on a weekly basis to follow up on this problem and nothing permanent gets done to solve the problem. We have regular customers complaining about this constant horrible smell,” she said.Nhlanhla Cebekhulu, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM), divisional head of communication and media relations said: “Blockages are caused by the construction work for the upgrade at the Alberton Boulevard. The contractor has been instructed to attend to the blockages and remove all debris.”
