Neglected puppies had to be put down
Puppies found in the Palm Ridge area were only around seven days old
PALM RIDGE – While driving around the Palm Ridge area on January 20, Monica Gey van Pittius heard crying near the Palm Ridge Magistrates court.
She tried to establish where the crying was coming from and discovered six puppies of around seven days old that were left in a box. She decided to take them to the Alberton SPCA.
Monica, who believes that the puppies were in a healthy condition, showed them to an employee of the SPCA. According to Monica, she left the SPCA facility and “within two minutes” quickly returned and requested that she would like to take the puppies to look after them, but the employee said that the puppies had already been put down at around 12:00.
Kingstone Siziba, Manager of SPCA Alberton, when asked to explain why this incident had occurred, answered,” If any member of the public find themselves in a situation and do not know how to deal with an animal, the SPCA are open 24/7 (emergency) or they could come through during office hours and ask all the necessary questions about animals and how the SPCA operates.”
He went on to explain: “If the public would like to view any of the legislative procedures, they can view the documents online at www.nspca.co.za.
“We want to work with the public and if anyone wants to know something, they can ask. We are open to your questions,” he said.
