To help fight climate change, 300 spekboom plants will be available to the residents of Alberton at the Engen Brightstar Garage at the corner of Jacqueline and Venter streets on November 30.
The plants will be priced at only R10 to cover the costs involved in providing the plants.
The hope with the project is to fight climate change by having every household in Alberton have one of these miracle plants in their garden.
The spekboom, an indigenous South African plant, is known for its extreme ability to filter carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Not only that, but it also is a very adaptable plant that is able to survive on only 250-350mm of water a year.
At the same time, it can adapt to high levels of rainfall.
The plant is very easy to grow. Simply cut or break off a piece of a spekboom, let it dry out for one or two days and then stick it in the ground.
Give it a little water every few days and you’ll soon have a new spekboom plant.
