Albertonians will again come together on December 14 to clean up the Alrode area, and they are hoping for a greater turnout this time.

The first clean-up session of Alrode South kicked off on December 7, where a few residents came together to clean up the area.

“The rain over the weekend kept many people away, but the ones who came already made a huge difference,” said Nathan Fee, organiser of the clean-up.

Nathan recently started a Facebook page called Let’s Clean with the aim of uniting Albertonians behind the cause of curbing pollution in Alberton and surrounding areas.

“The plan is to focus on Alrode South and work our way through to Regents Park,¨ he said.

He also wanted to thank everyone who came out and helped on December 14.

“Also, thank you to The Impressed Worx for supplying gloves and masks and their bakkies and a trailer, Sentinel Security for their security guards and thank you to Crest Safety Supplies, a Glenvista-based company, for their sponsor of refuse bags,” Nathan said.

Residents are invited to the next clean-up session, only people 16 years and older may join.

The veld at which they will start has been turned into a dumping ground and is filled with rubble, burnt rubbish and litter.
