To tackle bullying, Brackendowns SAPS launched an anti-bullying campaign in November 2019 with primary schools of greater Alberton taking part.
The campaign was supported by Brackenhurst Primary School, Laerskool Orion, Kenton Primary and Glenview Primary School. There were at least 2 500 learners between the ages of five and nine who participated in the campaign.
Learners had to colour in a picture which focused on bullying.
Through the campaign, 18 final winners were identified, representing each of the participating schools.
Sgt Nicole Niemand, media liaison for Brackendowns SAPS, said interacting with children was effective in preventing bullying in schools.
“Bullying has entered the media spotlight and the public outcry is forcing serious intervention from SAPS.
“Bullying can cause a significant physical and psychological harm.
“We would like to thank all the learners who participated and all the various role players who contributed in making this campaign a success,” said Niemand.
