South Africa’s renowned disabled tennis player, Kgothatso Montjane, gladly received donations from Boots for Africa on February 29 at Alberhart Tennis Club.
The donation of sport equipment she received will be donated to Helene Franz Secondary School as a means to promote sport.
Donations to Boots for Africa were received from Alberton Cricket and Hockey Club, Ready to Send, Alberhart Tennis Club and Alberton Christian Academy.
In total tennis rackets, cricket and hockey gear, volleyball and netball balls were also donated.
Montjane said: “We all know we don’t have tennis in our rural communities and we can only cement that talent if we pay more attention to it.
“I want to build communities and leave a legacy. I want to pick tennis as a sport that I excel in, but going forward I want to focus on other sport.”
She told the RECORD that she wanted to promote the culture of sport and encourage the disabled to participate more in tennis.
“This will enhance their sense of well-being and improve their self-esteem as well as their disability.
“It will contribute a lot to their physical part of life and this will encourage them to be active as much as possible,” she said.
She thanked all those who were involved in uplifting her community through the donations she received.
