EFF Tent and chairs burned in Thokoza

ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu dismissed accusations that ANC members could have been behind the arson attack.

THOKOZA – Lawrence Matimketsa of the Thokoza EFF reported that the party’s tent and chairs were set alight on Saturday morning, while they were not attended.

“We as the EFF do not know who burned the tent and chairs, but we are still investigating and we are hoping to find something.

“We are going to have a meeting where we will discuss what happened, and see if we have found out information relating to the cause of the fire,” said EFF member Matimketsa.

SAPA reported that a stage and a sound system also burned with the fire, that is still under investigation.

The party’s premier candidate Dali Mpofu was due to address the rally at the Sam Ntuli stadium at 10:00.

However, the fire did not prevent Dali Mpofu, who eventually addressed the rally after they party reacted swiftly to hire new chairs.

ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu dismissed accusations that African National Congress members could have been behind the arson attack.

“We never do such things. This is an unfair accusation. It is totally uncalled for, and anyone who burnt that marquee must be found and prosecuted,” Mthembu said.
