Little Bambinos raising funds for Kylie
Little Bambinos, a kindergarten, is asking for assistance for one of there learners. Kylie Rheeder, born on February 18, was born with her foot bent. Her foot was bent back, towards her shin, but this was minor to what lay ahead for Kylie.
ALBERTON: The paediatrician checked Kylie and on her second day she was sent to Neonatal as she was diagnosed with a problem between her kidneys, and a blockage in her bladder. Kylie had her first operation at only seven days old. The blockage was burnt so that her one kidney could start draining into her bladder.
Since then Kylie has been admitted into hospital three times, with infections. Her bladder had too much pressure and the urine that was drained into her bladder was being pushed back into her kidneys. Test results have shown that Kylie was born with a kidney disease. She is at risk of kidney failure, and her weaker kidney will eventually stop functioning completely.
Kylie’s kidney which was only functioning at 26 per cent meant that she had to undergo an urgent operation. The operation had to stop the kidney from draining into her bladder, which was causing more damage to her kidneys as well as infection. Kylie had her second operation at 12 weeks old on May 6. Kylie’s kidney can not drain into her bladder because of the infection which means her kidney is now being drained through a hole in her side.
Her kidney has improved from 26 per cent to 30 per cent kidney function, but this is still far from the 90 per cent it should be functioning at. She still shows risk of kidney failure.
She has many dietary requirements, and this means that … gets added to her milk, to avoid deficiencies.
Despite all the restrictions and the difficulties Kylie is facing, she is a happy baby.
Her mother, Natasha, is a single mom. She has to cope with a full time job and with Kylie’s regular hospitalisation. Natasha has to take a lot of unpaid leave from work, because of this she is battling financially. This then also means that there are a lot of medical bills that Natasha can not manage, or that the medical aid does not provide for.
Little Bambinos is using their Entrepreneurs day to raise funds for Kylie. The Entrepreneurs day takes place on June 7 from 10:00 to 13:00.
