Thinasonke protests: Two arrested for public violence

Law enforcement agencies were alerted that the intersection of K146 and R556 was barricaded.

EDEN PARK – The intersection between K146 and Old Vereeniging Road was also barricaded. These were causing heavy traffic congestion in Alrode South, Alberton.

There were also reports that protestors were throwing objects at vehicles trying to by-pass the barriers.

“Both EMPD and SAPS officers attended to the complaint, and the situation was quelled and by 09:00 all the protestors had dispersed and the traffic situation was back to normal,” the EMPD spokesperson said.

Two men in their mid-thirties were arrested and charged with public violence at the Brackendowns police station. They are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
