Guy Fawkes in Ekurhuleni

Regulations pertaining to fireworks in the Ekurhuleni area.

ALBERTON – With the festive season just around the corner and Guy Fawkes Day taking place tomorrow, November 5,  it is important to note what the noise control regulations are and how they pertain to fireworks in Ekurhuleni.

Councillor Michael Basch shared this information with the RECORD.

The EMPD disturbance of peace and Gauteng noise control regulations are:

Section 42. Disturbance of the peace

(2) No person shall discharge fireworks without the prior written consent of the council, and such written consent shall hereafter be called a “Fireworks permit”.

Such “Fireworks permit” will be readily available at the event and produced on request by an authorised officer.

Any person failing to do so shall be guilty of an offence.

The penalty is a fine of R2 000.

Gauteng Noise Control (Health and Environmental Health)

Regulation 9(d)

A penalty will be given for the discharge of fireworks in a residential area in a manner which may cause a noise nuisance.

Offenders will be liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding R20 000.

    Ban fireworks completely!!!
How is this rule going to be enforced?? We are surrounded by people using fireworks in their gardens, greatly inconvenciencing those who have to protect their terrified pets and we don’t appreciate the racket. It’s inconsiderate and shows complete disrespect for other people, animals and birds. Yes, birds too, they’re startled by the loud bangs and fly off, abandoning their nests with young. How many animals end up impaling themselves horribly on fences and gates, in sheer terror? How many pets break out and just run, desperate to get away from the noise, and either end up dead on roads, miles away from home and bundled into cages at animal shelters, or never be found again? BAN FIREWORKS
