Peacan nut grove at Alberton High

For those residents who have enough space for two peacan nut trees, you can contact the Parks Department to find out if you can receive two trees for free.

ALBERTON – Haya Construction sponsored more than 200 peacan nut trees for Alberton.

With the help of Councillor Bruna Haipel, these trees have been distributed to various schools, organisations and residents of Alberton.

As part of the distribution, 50 trees have been delivered to Alberton High on November 18.

The trees were handed over to the school by representatives of Haya Construction. Mr Coston, the deputy head and the schools grounds keeper, fondly referred to as Oom Piet, were present to take ownership of the trees.

As part of the handover the school received instructions on how to plant the trees.

Peacan nut trees need to be planted in two’s and about eight meters apart, this ensures that cross pollination can take place and that the trees will produce fruit.

The school then indicated where they are planning to plant the trees. The dedicated area will form a “peacan nut grove” at the school.

Cllr Haipel would also like to inform the community that there are about 90 trees looking for a home. She would like to invite any resident who has enough space for at least two trees to contact Mandla Mudi at the Parks Department on 011 999 2580.

Residents will have to fetch the trees and they will receive instructions on how to plant and look after them.
