EMPD apprehends imposter

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department arrested a man impersonating a police officer. The suspect was apprehended after members of the public reported him stopping drivers on Old Vereeniging Road while being visibly intoxicated.

The suspect was discovered wearing an official police uniform. He claimed to be employed by Johannesburg Metropolitan Police.

Upon investigation it was discovered that he has not been employed there for the last six years. He was acting as a police officer in order to solicit bribes from unsuspecting motorists.

The suspect has previously been convicted of theft, fraud and assault and has outstanding warrants for arrest at the Brackdowns Police Station.

He will be charged with pretending to be a police officer.
